The Black Forest Woodworker is Helko’s flagship axe. 

Built for serious bushcraft, woodworking and camp use, the Helko Werk Black Forest Woodworker Axe (101.0H100H001) combines traditional German axe-making craftsmanship with a versatile, compact design suited to Australian outdoor conditions.

Handmade in Germany, the Black Forest Woodworker features Helko Werk’s traditional Rheinland-pattern axe head, designed with a broad cutting edge that excels at felling small trees, limbing branches, clearing saplings and preparing kindling. Its balanced size also makes it capable of light to moderate firewood splitting without the bulk of a full-size felling or splitting axe.

The 1kg axe head is hand forged from C50 high-grade carbon steel, heat treated and oil hardened to approximately 53–56 HRC for a durable cutting edge. Each blade is hand ground and sharpened, with the traditional Helko crown mark stamped into the axe head.

A 60cm Grade A American hickory handle provides excellent strength, shock absorption and control. Each handle is individually selected for grain orientation and density, then finished with boiled linseed oil for a smooth, comfortable grip and added protection against moisture.

Compact enough for the campsite, 4WD, bushcraft kit or preparedness gear, yet substantial enough for demanding timber work, the Black Forest Woodworker is an excellent choice for anyone wanting a dependable, traditionally crafted axe that can handle a broad range of outdoor tasks.
